Robbie Hird's Chopper

Rob's bike started life as a 1976 XS650C and he owned it for several years trying to decide what to do with it. As you can see he finally decided to build a chopper, his first ever project, and I'm sure you'll agree with me he has done an outstanding job for a first effort. Motor was built by Dave Taylor and includes boring to the max using pistons supplied by Mikes XS and a fully rebuilt crankshaft rephased to 277° also a hot cam supplied by Daryl Hutcheon and 34mm Mikunis supplied by XS650 Central fully jetted and ready to go. Frame was modified by Martin engineering in Melbourne and the whole thing was painted and airbrushed by a mate. Rob still has to make a seat and do the wiring and this includes a new regulator/rectifier from Mikes XS and an ignition system which will either be a Newtronics or the new Taylor made system. The bike also features all cables and hoses done in braided steel done by MALTECH in Drysdale. The exhaust is something Rob has not made his mind up about yet and may opt for some fishtail mufflers which would would be very much in keeping with this old school style chopper.

Well done Rob!!!

There's Rob, the kid with wrinkles.

The pictures do not do the bike justice, if you get the chance go see it in the flesh!

Update July 2008

Rob sent me some pics of his first ride on the now going chopper, still some work to do to complete the project but it's well on the way. Just some chroming to do and the seat cover it will be finished. Rob says it goes great.
